U937 cells (b) are more vulnerable to cytotoxic effect of C60 fullerenes and their nanocomplexes with Cis and Dox compared with normal monocytes (a). Cells were treated with mentioned compounds at the concentration of 0.15 mg/ml for 24 h. After culturing, cells were stained with annexinV (AnnV)/propidium iodide (PI) and analyzed by flow cytometry. Control: cells were incubated without any additional agents. The average values for 4 independent experiments are presented. *p < 0.05 compared with untreated cells; #p < 0.05 compared to cells treated with Dox alone; §p < 0.05 compared to cells treated with Cis alone, as analyzed by unpaired t test
